Kweichow Maotaizhen
Baijiu is the national spirit of China and that makes it one of the biggest-selling spirits in the world. This is a 9-year-old sauce aroma Baijiu from Kweichow Maotaizhen, made with sorghum and wheat and fermented for a year before it undergoes final distillation with solid state fermentation using Qu, a starter made from cultivated bacteria & fungi. It is matured for nine years in terracotta pots.

My first Baijiu so very new to the drink but I really enjoyed this (although probably not enough to buy a full bottle at £165 - I tried a sample). On the nose I got spiced pear, floral notes, some malty/grain aromas and a hint of white chocolate. Initially sweet on the palate with an almost neutral taste at first, developing more savoury grain notes and spiced pear on the finish with a touch of creaminess. Full bodied and very smooth. Enjoyed at room temp. Apparently classed as 'sauce' fragrance for anyone who understands the relevance (I certainly don't)
