All the way from Orkney comes Orkney Akvavit, which is said to be the first Scottish akvavit! It's distilled eight times, and features the likes of caraway, citrus and rosehip among its botanicals. With Orkney's close historical ties to Scandinavia, where akvavit has been produced for centuries, this should make for an intriguing expression.
Intensely herbal, though still soft and well-rounded. Sweetness of orange and lemon balances cardamom and caraway notes wonderfully.

An absolutely mega sipping aquavit - complex, herbal and coats the mouth for an eternity. Stunning chilled, or out of the freezer and poured over a large ice cube.
Stunning aquavit both neat or mixed.
Subtracted half a star because this doesn't fit my idea of an akvavit. It works much better with a touch of Indian tonic than it does accompanying Norwegian pilsner and smoked meat - for that I'll stick to Linie. However, the Orkney Akvavit is plenty smooth enough to drink on it's own, has enough caraway and cardamom that you wouldn't mistake it for a gin, and when this bottle is finished I'll order another. Enough said!
As I have tried most aquavits this one came from a friend on recommendation. I can say without any doubt this is the most interesting, complex and the best I have tasted yet. Liquid heaven, magnificent!
