Dark rum is booming

Overall growth: Jan-March +17%

Standout: Dark Rum +22.2%

While spiced and flavoured rum have previously dominated our trends reports, it’s interesting to see the increase in dark rum – perhaps, as single malt whisky prices rise, people are looking for alternatives in their cocktails.

Overall growth: Feb-March +21.4%

Standout: Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur +55.1%

Home mixing is still strong! With a stand out like Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur, it looks as though our previous predictions about savoury flavours are coming true.

TEQUILA

Reposado Tequila is standing out on Master of Malt

Overall growth: Q1 2022 VS Q1 2023: +35.6%

Standout: Reposado Tequila +54%

Tequila is moving well past shot culture, with strong sales in the reposado sub-category suggesting people are either enjoying it neat sipping or swapping it with other aged spirits in classic cocktails.

MEZCAL

Mezcal is becoming more popular as people explore

Overall growth: Q1 2022 VS Q1 2023: +20.7%

Standout: Joven Mezcal +18.8%

As exploration in drinks shows no signs of slowing down, drinkers are diversifying away from simply smoky whiskies – agave is getting in on the action too, with unaged mezcals lending themselves to cocktails.
