Port Ellen 24 Year Old 1979 - Cask Strength Collection (Signatory)
This was distilled at the Port Ellen distillery on the 16th November 1979. It was then aged for 24 years in sherry butt #6773 before bottling at cask-strength in October 2004. This is a release of just 541 numbered bottles from Signatory's Cask Strength Collection.
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose
Coastal, aromatic nose with hints of lime peel and fresh herbs. Tangy notes of citrus, allspice, soft peat smoke and tar.
Palate
Tarry old ropes and beeswax. Hints of lemon curd, honey, allspice and cardamom. Rich oak and a thick plume of oily wood smoke.
Finish
Long finish - very complex with hints of salted butter and herbs on the tail.
Overall
Beautifully complex and a great example from Port Ellen...
