Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.

A really smooth whisky, drunk neat it starts with the lovely warmth that you get from whisky but is light and fruity, vanilla notes come through at the end. I find many whiskys are too strong for me to drink more than one, but the Yamakazi Distillers Reserve is one that I can definitely top my glass up with.
Firstly lovely looking bottle ! Great colour of whisky makes you want to open it and try it right away . On opening the smell is sweet but not sickly and has lovely oak notes. I tried this neat , i has a lovely string taste and a nice burn to your throat ,nice after taste that doesnt linger too long looking forward to the rest of the bottle.
Not a huge whisky fan, so was a bit hesitant right off the bat. But my word I was wrong, what a stunningly beautiful drink. Smooth, full flavoured, works on it's own, works mixed - just a stunner of a drink. Consider me converted, this is a stonker of a drink and will be a staple in my drinks cupboard for years to come. Nothing like the usual whisky you might have had, but also incredibly familiar. Can't recommend this high enough!!!
