Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.

Nice vintage looking bottle. A sweet, smooth honey roasted style whiskey with fruity notes. Can defiantly smell the coconut. I found it a little hard to drink neat, but with dash of water this helped mellow the initial whisky burn to enjoy the layers of flavours. It’s a nice dram, with berry notes, a hint of oak and coconut. Definitely warms the soul. Quite pricy, but you get what you pay for and is great as a one off treat and to share with friends. Either have it neat, dash of water or over ice with a splash of lemonade!
I was so excited to receive the product. The descriptions got me really excited to try. Unfortunately, this was short lived. I really did not enjoy the whisky sadly. The only notes were coconut for me
I’m not a big fan of Whisky but this one just blew my mind. Very delicate taste which I was very surprised. Absolutely loved it
I really enjoyed this single malt. I tried it various ways, with water and on ice, I found it a very smooth malt whiskey, with a hint of Smokiness to to it. I would buy again!
Overall its not bad. And not excellent. For this price range definitely you will find a better choice. Expectations was higher. Bottle very simple. Its smooth after passing burn of alcohol. Vanila last and last... Worth to try to make your opinion.
