Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.
A special smooth tasting whisky with a unique taste. It has a wow factor that makes you feel special enough to be drinking a few glasses. The strength and class of the whisky comes through in every mouthful - this is a very enjoyable drink
In my humble opinion, this is one of the finest whiskies money can buy. I like peaty malts but sometimes prefer one that's a bit lighter for easy drinking. This hits the spot nicely, you really feel you have encountered something special. Soft and delicate on the nose and smooth on the palette with hints of charred wood, sweet honey and exotic fruits. A superb drink neat or on the rocks. Will definitely buy again. Bahlool
A elegant drink with a sophisticated affordable taste. Down from the bottle the the colouring and taste. A very refreshing refined taste that whiskey lovers with both enjoy and saver.
This is my first taste of The Yamazaki single malt as my usual drink of choice is scotch single malt, Glenmorangie and Glenfiddich being particular favourites. I must say I’m impressed with this Japanese whisky! Summer fruits on the nose and smooth and fruity on the palate, nice depth about it and I found it as enjoyable as both Glen’s. Add a drop of cold water and you’ll get a nice surprise as the flavours open up even more. Great drop and one you should certainly add to your collection
The best whiskey I have ever tried,it's so smooth, not too complicated but you can tell as with every other Japanese whiskey that it was carefully made with attention of the details. Its really luxury. We had it for my dad's 60th birthday.
