Yamazaki Distiller’s Reserve

Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose

Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!

Palate

The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.

Finish

Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.

Overall

Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.

Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky - Distiller’s Reserve Nice bottle and box when i opened it up and 43% very good. Has got a nice sweet alcohol smell with a light colour taste very strong but not to strong to drink with ice smooth sweet spice heat that really goes down nice and leaves you with a warm nice feeling. Found it better over ice than on its own and really nice as a long drink with lemonade and ice very easy drinking whisky can tell its been matured in oak barrel to give it a great flavour.

Surprisingly ImPressed

I was not expecting to be so impressed with this whisky. The oaky flavours combine brilliantly with the highly 'spirity' taste. Whilst perhaps a little less refined than my usual Scotch I am pleased to ha e this in my drinks cabinet. Just the price is a little off putting.

It’s a lovely whisky to drink either neat or in a cocktail. A great Japanese whisky to sip after a good meal.

Smooth and very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this whiskey it had a smooth taste and it was very enjoyable it was a pleasure to drink and really did taste really nice I've had some whiskeys that are harsh and tastes bitter but this one definitely doesn't you will not be disappointed in this smooth flavoursome drink

Excellent choice

This whiskey is an excellent choice for whiskey lovers. It has a smooth, sweet taste that is perfect for sipping. There is more complexity than many other whiskies, with a distinct oaky flavor and hints of fruit and citrus and a lingering sweet finish. The aroma is rich and earthy with a hint of smokiness. The texture is silky, with a long and pleasing finish. I highly recommend this whisky, it's a great choice for those who want to experience something special in their glass.
