Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.
I've tried multiple Japanese whiskey before , lots of Irish and Scottish. Most of the Japanese whiskey ive tried have very strong notes and after taste that lingers. Yamazaki doesn't have the strong after taste which I like. It tasted lightweight and right notes on the rocks. Highly recommended if you prefer go easy whiskey. Bonus, no hang over
A great whiskey. Great taste, flavour. We were really delighted to have the chance to test this product. Never had a Japanese whiskey .The package is very nice, but the lid can be improved. Overall is a great product.
This is such a lovely smooth drink, such a creative design from the box to the bottle! Now onto the good stuff! I consumed it over ice, which made it such a great easy drinkable choice! Smooth and Smokey notes which went down perfectly as an after dinner drink choice!
Yamazaki Single Malt Whisky has a complex nose, which definitely benefits from chilling and dilution. I've seen some comments that dilution up to 47% can be required to get all the flavours and scents from the whiskey, I wouldn't go quite that far, but it certainly benefitted from the chilling and dilution over time. On the tongue, the whiskey starts out with a lot of berries, but as time goes on there's more of a floral, spicy note.
Presentation is really nice looking, however the screw top was disappointing for the premium brand. Really nice smooth taste with a warming undertone. Definitely recommend to friends.
