Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.
Must admit I’m not a massive whiskey drinker, so this came as a nice surprise in terms of its taste. I found it quite gentle compared to some whiskies that might advertise themselves as the same but not follow through. This wrapped me in a warm hug and had me solving the worlds problems after a dram or two. Not quite a whiskey concert but certainly enjoyed this experience.
This drink has a good fragrance and it is powerful when you first try it. I was pleasant surprised but the after taste. This is the best whiskey with an excellent after taste I ever had. I also tried with mixers and it worked quite well. I would recommend this product.
Nice and smooth on the palate, Not as sweet as other whiskey but still enjoyable over ice. Hints of fruity notes, warming and hearty drink.
If you enjoy high quality, smooth, deep taste notes in your whiskey then this is it! You can taste the good quality as it’s so easy to drink as it’s so smooth. I normally would enjoy my whiskey with ice but this Japanese whiskey is too good to add or mix with anything. I loved it neat to get the most of it.
The whisky is quite strong and nice . But I would prefer drink it with ice and mixer. I can tell is strong and very quality and would buy it on special occasions. Recommended highly.
