Released in Spring 2014, this is one of two Distiller's Reserve single malt whiskies from Suntory in Japan. This single malt from the Yamazaki distillery is jam-packed with superb red berry notes, gained from the whisky being matured in Bordeaux wine casks and Sherry casks. It also features malt matured in Mizunara casks, adding subtle fragrant oak notes.
Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly a whisky where you could get lost in its nose!
The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialled back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice.
Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
Top quality Japanese whisky, and excellent value too. Can't go wrong with this, really.

This is what i call Japanese whisky at its finest! Its taste is incomparable, taste really great with its fine and smooth taste, it had a definite classiness, its taste felt like honey and almond type of flavour, overall experience with this spectacular whisky is great, and would definitely be returning to this drink.
I was really pleased to get this Whisky to try. It was very difficult from my normal brand. It is a Japanese Whiskey from their oldest and first distillery. It’s a beautiful strong gold colour in your glass. The first thing that hits you is almost berry aroma. Strawberry and Cherry. Then the taste of Raspberries, PamPeaches and a hint of Coconuts. Delicious. I shall definitely be purchasing another bottle of this!
This is a very good quality whisky and I wouldn't expect anything less from a Japanese whisky. The smell and taste has fruity notes. It is a neat whisky but I found it easier to drink with a bit of ice. Love the packaging and the bottle which has a vintage feel. This whisky definitely is not cheap but for the quality of this, you really do get what you pay for.
For the price it's not as smooth as it could be. You could get a more mature bottle for less.
This is the first time that I have sampled a Japanese whisky, I have my whisky with just a few cubes of ice, I wouldn't spoil this whisky with any mixer. I found it to be a smooth, light whisky, with a very pleasant flavor at the start. It definitely had a classiness & complexity to it. Wilf74
