An extraordinarily exciting release from Yamazaki, which shows off the glory of mizunara wood maturation. This is an 18 year old single malt from the Japanese whisky distillery that has been fully matured in casks made from rare mizunara oak. Only found in a few parts of Japan, mizunara is a notoriously difficult type of wood to work with for coopers, though folks at Suntory have mastered techniques for identifying suitable trees and crafting the casks over the years. Created by chief blender Shinji Fukuyo, this was made to a be dramatic, unforgettable expression - we reckon he succeeded in that.

A beautiful bottle inside and out. A collector’s delight and whisky connoisseur’s ultimate bucket list whisky. Can’t wait to encounter my moment of “epiphany.” (Fukuyo-san, 2017).
I got onnnnee
I was fortunate enough to win the dram lottery. This was a fantastic dram. Sophisticated, flavorful, lasting. I wish I would have won the bottle, but I feel fortunate to have had a chance to try it.
This whisky is so sexy, if it were a human being, it would be David Hasselhoff. 80s Hasselhoff.
It’s too cool. Way too cool!
