Yamazaki is Suntory's flagship single malt whisky, from Japan's first and oldest malt distillery. This 12 year old first came onto the market in 1984 and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt whisky. Since then, it has acquired something of a cult following, and for good reason! A wonderfully elegant and smooth single malt that’s certainly not lacking in flavour.
Good body with plenty of nut oils and zest, a pleasant floral character with a little tropical fruit and a rooty note.
Smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice. A lovely citrus note develops with more tropical fruit notes and a little rum.
Medium with fruit and zest.

Bought this as my curiosity surrounding the hype got the better of me.. It’s a pleasant enough whiskey no doubt. Very light and drinkable.. Both neat and with a spot of water or over ice.. But would I part with another £140 to have another bottle?..The jury is still out on that for me to be honest. And because of that and it wasn’t life changing like some led me to believe it’s 3 and a half stars from me..
I was concerned after so much hype it would be disappointing, but honestly it was just as good as I hoped. Floral, light, full of flavour and dangerously drinkable. But not worth the price. I'd recommend finding a local Japanese restaurant to get some authentic food and try this alongside it, you won't regret it, but for the same price I can get two bottles of Caol Ila or Lagavulin. Until this is half the current price it just isn't worth it.
The fruity notes and aroma on this one are amazing. Sure the japanese whisky is superhyped but they own expressions like this one that are no easily forgetable. Yamazaki is pure quality
Tried it once in a bar, wouldn't buy a bottle unless I find myself in Japan. Great, fruity and well-rounded whisky, don't get me wrong. However, for a comparison, I am looking at my cart on the Australia's largest liquor merchant's website, and for the exact same price of Yamazaki 12, I have added: Bunna 12, Clynelish 14 and Redbreast 12. Also, Suntory will raise prices further in April 2024. Hibiki Harmony and Hakushu range are also out of control. Sorry, it is just a fad at this point.
This has to be the most overrated whisky I have ever tried. It is completely inoffensive and delicate. But there just isn't much flavour here at all. You'd be better off buying any single malt from the local supermarket.
