Yamazaki is Suntory's flagship single malt whisky, from Japan's first and oldest malt distillery. This 12 year old first came onto the market in 1984 and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt whisky. Since then, it has acquired something of a cult following, and for good reason! A wonderfully elegant and smooth single malt that’s certainly not lacking in flavour.
*UK (excluding Channel Islands) and retail only. Offer from 14 07 2025, while stock lasts.
Good body with plenty of nut oils and zest, a pleasant floral character with a little tropical fruit and a rooty note.
Smooth and soft with good sweetness and winter spice. A lovely citrus note develops with more tropical fruit notes and a little rum.
Medium with fruit and zest.
A most delightful and thoroughly refreshing whisky, notes of apple & sweet herbs along with other fruits are the main palette taste sensations, easily drinkable @ 43% abv & to be honest this is one of my fave single malts lovely stuff, yes indeedy!!!
Super soft drink very nice
Had this at a restaurant in Kyoto last year. The whole experience was amazing and this topped it off. Seemed like the nicest whisky I'd ever had. Too bad basically impossible to get but maybe best to remember it like that.
Tuath glass showing deep gold. The nose shows light, clean notes of apple. The palate is very smooth and mildly sweet with flavors of apple and light smoke on the end. Good but poor price performance.
Yamazaki 12 is a pretty decent dram, with an incredible smoothness but little else. I'd definitely recommend it if it was around the £40-50 mark, but anything more than £70 feels bad. There's nothing particularly distinct about this whisky, and it is so delicate that that if you drink any whiskies beforehand you won't be able to get any flavour out of this. I'd recommend trying this at a bar, but if you have £120 burning a hole in your pocket, go buy two bottles of Redbreast 12/15 instead - you'll be far less disappointed.
