Wormtub 12 Year Old Single Cask

Wonderful, wonderful Wormtub Whisky! Worm tubs hark back to the days of old, you don't see many of them around in modern-day distilleries but thankfully a few have retained these old-school bits of condensing kit, favouring the robust, heavy whiskies that they help to produce. This is a single cask batch of Wormtub 12 Year Old, a splendid Speyside single malt that finished its maturation in a first-fill oloroso sherry hogshead and bottled at cask strength, without added colour or chill filtration.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Big, bold sherry character shines, with juicy sultanas, candied orange wheels, and sweetly spiced fruit loaf.

    Palate

Roasted, candied walnuts and oily malt lead to meaty notes of spiced biltong, rich oak, and sherry-soaked dried fruits.

    Finish

Sherried oak lingers on alongside that meaty, juicy malt, with savoury notes of fennel and spice in tow.

    Hot, but very good

Sherry bomb for sure. The neck pour is hot, but let it sit and the flavors assault you in a good way. A drop of water is warranted for those who don't like the heat. Nice mouthfeel thanks to the worm tub and NCF. I'm on my second bottle of Batch #4. Hopefully the #5 is as good or better.

    Preferred 10 year old

It’s a nice whisky but I found the 10 year old had more of a rich, sherry hit (and is £25 cheaper).

    Glowing

After the first sip a superb heated glow as it slid into my tum and heady aftertaste.
