Becoming Scotland's northernmost mainland whisky producing distillery when it released its first single malt in March 2016, Wolfburn is built just 350m away from the ruins of the 19th century distillery from which it takes its name. With long fermentation, slow manual distillation and maturation taking place at least partly in quarter casks that previously held peated whisky from Islay, this is a release we've eagerly anticipated!
Orchard fruits, apple pie, a fresh maltiness, almonds, magnolia and a suggestion of smoke
Honey Nut Clusters breakfast cereal, sweet spices, chocolate croissant, more honey towards the end, and a subtle earthy peatiness.
Long and fresh, with even more rich honey notes
A deliciously complex single malt from one of Scotland’s newer distilleries - they are hitting it out of the park!
It shows quality, from its presentation to the moment you taste it. It is NAS, and definitely younger whisky, but it still has certain level of complexity and solid ABV to make up. Nose: honey, malt and some peat. Palate: Custard, smoke and raisins. Finish: spicy, smoky and sweet. Good stuff, and another reason why Wolfburn is becoming popular.
When I saw NCF, NC and 46% ABV I knew it couldn't be bad. Great whisky (even for a NAS). I'm getting another bottle and I'm looking forward to try the other expresions. Highly recommended.
Probably the nicest whisky I have ever tasted. Straight to number one on the favourites list!
I bought a botlte of Wolfburn Small Patch 128 some months ago and I liked it. Then I bought a bottle of Northland and it's even better. Nose is very fruity and palette is very wide. There's almonds, nuts and oak. Finish is long. 46% abv is bit high and a few drops of water is recommended. If you liked any other Wolfburn, you definately should try Northland, you'll like it. (R)
Positives, single malt, natural color, 46% abv , not too sweet. Subtle, delicious smokey peat from start to finish. Very enjoyable dram made by a craft, not mass produced distiller. I bought this on sale for $30 U.S. and at this price it is a steal.
