    Distillery/BrandWolfburn Whisky

    Wolfburn 8 Year Old Northland

Becoming Scotland's northernmost mainland whisky producing distillery when it released its first single malt in March 2016, Wolfburn is built just 350m away from the ruins of the 19th century distillery from which it takes its name. With long fermentation, slow manual distillation and maturation taking place at least partly in quarter casks that previously held peated whisky from Islay, this is a release we've eagerly anticipated!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Orchard fruits, apple pie, a fresh maltiness, almonds, magnolia and a suggestion of smoke

    Palate

Honey Nut Clusters breakfast cereal, sweet spices, chocolate croissant, more honey towards the end, and a subtle earthy peatiness.

    Finish

Long and fresh, with even more rich honey notes

    Overall

A deliciously complex single malt from one of Scotland’s newer distilleries - they are hitting it out of the park!

Accessible for the beginner, complexity and depth for the experienced.

Saw this Scotch in Japan and grabbed a bottle. Very pleasantly surprised. Young but you really wouldn't think it compared to other young whiskies out there. Sweet and malty. Lots to savour as you taste. These guys really know what they are doing up there. Yeah man, grab a bottle of this stuff and try something new, shared with friends and disappeared quickly. Great packaging and me dad's getting one for fathers day now. Sorted.

    Blind taste: Stunning liquid!

Blind tasting: Couldn't (and still can't) believe this is so young. At just 3yo I wasn't expecting the complexity of aromas on the nose or flavours on the palate in what would best be described as a gently satisfying dram. One of the few newer producers whom I'd enthusiastically recommend. It's youth giving rise to grape/citrus but rounding out beautifully with a depth of nuttiness and salt/peat that has good length without residual harsh alcohols as one might have expected. This 3yo has become resident in my collection, as will future expressions I'm sure.

Truly lovely and well worth a try

Truly excellent - massively impressive for a young whisky (I'm told it's now a four year old). A bold nose, full palate (dried fruits, nuts, and a surprising amount of sweetness). The finish is long with just a trace of smoke. Well worth a try.

    wonderful

Absolutely surprising, especially the final with the long "almond paste" flavour. From the first smell to the end it is a beautiful surprise. Really worth it. A wonderful young dram !
