    Wolfburn Northland Single Malt

Becoming Scotland's northernmost mainland whisky producing distillery when it released its first single malt in March 2016, Wolfburn is built just 350m away from the ruins of the 19th century distillery from which it takes its name. With long fermentation, slow manual distillation and maturation taking place at least partly in quarter casks that previously held peated whisky from Islay, this is a release we've eagerly anticipated!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Orchard fruits, apple pie, a fresh maltiness, almonds, magnolia and a suggestion of smoke

    Palate

Honey Nut Clusters breakfast cereal, sweet spices, chocolate croissant, more honey towards the end, and a subtle earthy peatiness.

    Finish

Long and fresh, with even more rich honey notes

    Overall

A deliciously complex single malt from one of Scotland’s newer distilleries - they are hitting it out of the park!

By now, my favourite NAS whisky

Wolfburn Northland 46% vol. Part of the distillate was matured in quarter casks from Islay. Nose: fresh, fruity (citrus), malty, apples, grass, vanilla, soft smoke in the background, pretty intense, pleasant, mild, decently built for young whisky, slightly peppery, traces of ash and salt Taste: delicate sweetness, malt, slightly smoky, peppermint, earthy note, fruits - initially white grapes, later pineapple, slightly salty, honey note, warming Finish: quite long for such a young whisky, vanilla, oak, grapes, fruity sweetness going into light dryness and bitterness A very solid 3-year-old whisky, I is hard to believe that it is so young, I really liked it, despite non-peated malt, the barrel from Islay made a great job and added some cool smoke accents.

Young, yes, but these chaps are doing everything right!

Ignore the age-snobs and nay-sayers, this is a fabulous whisky. Of course it's young, but it's a beautifully made spirit delivered at 46% , non chill-filtered, great wood regime, exactly as it should be - clean, crisp and full of flavour. Of course it will develop more complexity with age, but it's already well worth your money. Can't wait to see how good this will be at 10 or 12 years old. The Aurora and Morven expressions are just as good. They've certainly won me over, and I've been a single malt Scotch fan since the early 90s, Ardbeg and Glenmorangie being particular favourites.

An old soul in a young whisky

Excellent early showing. The nose is really a treat with hints of melon and sweetness that can't quite be pinned down. Honey arrival and that slight hint of peat is well balanced. For a young whiskey I was impressed and really look forward to the 8-10 year version. I have to say the one review stating harsh much have confused it with something else. This is the *opposite* of harsh.

    Excellent

This a beautiful surprise find. Can't believe it is so young. Smooth with a hint of peatiness. Rapidly has become one of my favourites

    Harsh

The marketing refers to its proximity to the original distillery which is superfluous, its NEW and cannot compete (at present)with established malts , however that doesn't stop it charging a comparable price.
