Aerstone 10 Year Old Sea Cask

From William Grant comes Aerstone Sea Cask, a 10 year old single malt hailing from the Ailsa Bay Distillery. Its decade of maturation wasn't spent quite in the sea, though those maritime notes were still soaked up thanks to its ageing process in warehouses by the sea on the Ayrshire coast in Scotland.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Buttery toffee, creamy vanilla, freshly baked shortbread, honeyed malt, orange citrus and a dusting of cinnamon and cocoa.

    Palate

Floral malt, nougat, vanilla sponge and more honey, with orange sweeties, icing sugar and earthy oak.

    Finish

Notes of clove, candied lemon and vanilla pod linger, as a pinch of salt appears on the finish.

Nothing bad but nothing particularly good either

Smooth mouthfeel. Certainly smoother than blended JW Red. Pleasant in the nose but does not follow through to the palate. I don’t use the term “(insert adjective) but good for the money”. GFTW is a useless phrase that should be banished from the lexicon

Had 3 bottles would probably buy another

Land or sea cask not that smooth. Definitely get the salt finish at the end of sea cask. Dry wood slight earthy taste and slight treacle toffee. Worth a bottle when it’s on offer at £20 a go.

    Could be smoother

It is not smooth. I expected it to be smooth as per the description

    Excellent

The initial smell of toffee is absolutely beautiful. The palate of malt and honey is smooth as silk. The finish of a touch of the ocean makes this a new favourite. Love it and very happy.

    Great easy drinking daily.

I like it I bought it as a cheapish daily......was going to by a black Bush but this caught my eye. It's very easy. creamy gentle stuff with a surprisingly good mouth feel...plus a bit of salt. Glad I spotted it.
