Bit of a controversial whisky, seems you'll either love it or loathe it. If your wanting a easy drinking sweeter blended whisky then this will tick all the boxes. I find it's best served neat (but works well with ice, water or mixers) warm it in your hand to release the winter warming notes of caramel, sherry. Smooth and delicious. My go to cheaper blend
I was trying to find a budget whisky to ease my pocket. I just can't afford Glenmorengie or Lagavulin every pour. This Wyte & Mackay fits the price criteria. But despite the price, it is just not for me. Is almost like the blender put together some caramel water and thats it. Beyond that caramel sweetness, i struggle to find anything else. No heat, no character, no finish. It is a whisky thats only 'ok' if you mix with ice, or soda, or cooking, or cocktail. I had low expectation when i bought it due to again the low price. But even then, it managed to go below my expectation. I can find JW Black and Chivas 12 enjoyable, not this. A can of Guinness Stout has more complexity than this.
At first tasted like a sweet sherry, then like a cheap bourbon.. is lacking any bite but perfect to mix with coke is my guess..
perfect and very old whisky
In 2013 i bought a bottle of 23 year old Whyte&McKay while in Delhi India. Just finished it. Best I've tasted. How can I get more in USA.
