A single-barrel rye whiskey from WhistlePig, this is the eighth edition of the exceptional Boss Hog range. It's called LapuLapu's Pacific in honour of the legendary Filipino warrior LapuLapu, who killed Ferdinand Magellan at the Battle of Mactan and, in doing, delayed the Spanish occupation of the islands by over forty years. Appropriately the whiskey, aged first in American oak, was transferred to casks that previously held single island small batch rum from the Philippines for a second maturation.
Rich lush vanilla aromas give way to delicate tropical notes including underripe bananas, freshly picked lemon, and molasses.
Abundant fresh ground cinnamon with citrus zest, butterscotch, and light notes of toffee.
Tanned leather, light brown sugar, nutmeg, and allspice with a long-lasting black pepper rye spice.

A really complex and delicious Rye with elements of sweetness from the Rum casks. Is it worth £660? Possibly a different question but the free 12yo softens the blow - that’s also a delicious drop but very different. You really can taste the different cask finishes. Wanted a BH for my collection for years and all in all, glad I took the plunge when I did.
