WhistlePig is a fantastic brand of straight rye whisk(e)y which is distilled and initially matured in Canada before being aged further, at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont. This 10 year old straight rye is made with 100% rye and delivers a full-on flavour profile of clove, mint, barrel char, creamy caramels and butterscotch. Properly excellent stuff.
Fresh peppermint and herbal thyme initially, with sweet vanilla and marzipan developing. Creamy butterscotch, raspberry jam and orange rind round it off.
Warm baking spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice burst to life and are tempered by sweet muscovado sugar, bright oak and dark chocolate. Vanilla cola and caramel shortbread linger.
Medium-length, with warm rye spices, sweet malt and sour cherries.
Just shows, people have different tastes. I absolutely love this, have switched completely from single malt scotch to good quality rye - well almost anyway. First tasted it at an American Bourbon pub in London. Never looked back.
Peppermint vanilla marzipan butterscotch raspberry jam. I don’t think so Paid a lot of money for a bottle of this expecting something nice was left very disappointed
I initially gave this a bad review - but have since grown to like it quite a bit. Its dimension has since shown itself, and as a result, won me over. Not as round as the 12 or 18, but still full of character. Now a staple in my bar.
I don’t like this. At all. It’s unique, in that it tastes like a sour whicker basket that someone pissed on in the woods, but that’s about it. Even ruins an old fashioned when used as the primary ingredient. Damn.
I didn't know Rye whisky until trying WhistlePig in a nice hotel bar. This is now my favourite whisky, I use the 10 year old for my Old Fashioned. WhistlePig also have a 15 year old rye that I only drink neat, really shows the characteristics of rye whisky. They do 100% rye whisky whereas I got explained that most rye whiskys have between 51% to 70% rye.
