Another ace blended malt from independent Wemyss Malts - Velvet Fig is made with a selection of single malts, all of which have aged entirely in Oloroso Sherry casks. As you can imagine, from both the name and the autumnal, slightly brooding hue, this is a rich, well Sherried dram, packed with fig, date and a hint of spice.
Plump dates, blackberry jam, very soft oak and maybe a hint of malt loaf.
Figs, dates, raisins, sultanas, in one lovely little package! Sprinkled with cinnamon, crushed walnuts and ginger, it's all a bit Christmassy, it is.
Ginger and fig last on the finish.

4 speysides and a highland malt combined to a magical peak not achieved very often.
Bought this on trip of Kingsbarns distillery and kept until Christmas as recommended. That advice was spot on, this is a rich, Christmas dram, lovely complex flavours and wonderfully warming. Pity they only made 6000 bottles as this one will not last long!
