The first release in the Waterford Distillery's Arcadian Series, Gaia 1.1 is an organic Irish single malt whisky, as certified by the Organic Trust! This expression uses Irish barley grown by seven different farmers, and matured in a combination of first-fill American oak, virgin American oak, Vin Doux Naturel and French oak casks.
Honey, melted butter, fresh orange oil and a hint of cranberry.
Vibrant barley notes, supported by more citrus and fruit, as well as a growing touch of earthy spice.
Dried peels, cedar, spring blossom and menthol.
This is just delicious. Would like the taste to last forever but it dies away just that bit too quick. Will be buying again even if it's over my usual budget.
A really good drink this is a fine whiskey
The nicest Irish whiskey I have tasted. I cannot think what the other critic can have been tasting but not this, it's exquisite.
I tried this from a 3cl taster, and found it extremely unpleasant. In fact I struggled to finish the dram, something that has never happened to me before! The comprehensive tasting notes go on at length about the terroir of organic barley, but the overwhelming palate I found was reminiscent of anchovies - not something I normally expect in a malt. At £77 I shall be spending my money elsewhere.
