The Finlaggan range features single malt Scotch whisky from an undisclosed Islay distillery, bottled by the Vintage Malt Whisky Company. The range has seen a few expansions in recent years - this early 2016 release has enjoyed a finishing period in port casks, resulting in yummy, wine-like sweetness blending with the smoky, coastal peat.
Smoky, medicinal peat with a touch of red berry.
The Port cask finish starts to really take hold here, though the peat puts up a good fight.
Long and satisfying with sweet smoke.
Bought this not having too high expectations but .... What a surprise! A lovely peated port finish , had a taste " side by side " comparison with My last bottle of Benriach "importanicus fumosus" and for a "probably slightly " younger whisky, the Finlaggan is a steal ! Nose is a bit deceptive at first but given time to develop in the glass it's lovely , complex and a good port finish peated expression. Plum , raisins , very slight note of dark chocolate . Highly recommened ! 96/100.
