    Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey

Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey is produced in Tennessee using a combination of corn and rye, and is put through the Lincoln County Process before being aged in new American oak barrels. Currently it's produced by two local distilleries as the brand's own whiskey ages. The name honours Nathan Green, who was known as Uncle Nearest to friends and family, and was the first African-American master distiller on record in the USA. It's from Uncle Nearest that a particular Jack Daniel was taught about distilling was back in the mid-1800s. Nathan 'Nearest' Green is undoubtedly a figure who was vitally important to whiskey history.

    Solid stuff

Good, solid Tennessee product. mellow, enjoyable, but nothing jumps out and says "buy me a lot."

A delicious hint of the American dram

I was a little wary of what was to come with this one, but the sweet notes of toffee and smooth buttery taste were worth the wait.

    Great bourbon

Beautiful bourbon, oily, chewy, sweet, vanilla and oak, nuts, chocolatey. Lovely stuff

    Stay clear

Thought this was pretty average after first couple of sips. It is very oily with a sweet buttery taste.. After a few more sips I was hit with a really nasty chemical taste which made it really difficult to finish the glass. Definately wouldn't recommend this!

    Cloying aftertaste

This Whisky has a chemical flavor. I really wanted to like it for its amazing history but it lacks complexity and has a very cloying aftertaste. Overall very disappointed especially given the price.
