Tullibardine 228 Bottling Note

This is a delicious whisky from Tullibardine, released in 2013. It sees the Highland whisky finished for 12 months in 228-litre Red Burgundy wine casks from Chateau de Chassagne Montrachet.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Spiced, with notes of red berry fruit, vanilla and toasted oak.

Palate: Creamy, nutty palate entry with notes of sweet custard, apple peel, red berries and orange blossom honey.

Finish: Long finish with plum jam and allspice.

Overall: Spiced and rich with a delicious influence from the red wine casks.

Tullibardine 228 Burgundy Cask Finish Reviews

Tasty

Rather nice burgundy finish on this one.Smoother and tastier than I'd expected actually. Yes. I recommend this one. Sometimes Port or Wine finishes are worth a taste!

Happy bunny

Dancing on air after a couple of shots (or was it 5) of 228 . Just a delight of flavours designed to put a smile on anyones face.

A+ Value

I really enjoyed this one, especially after finishing a bottle of sherry cask (MacAllan 12), this doesn't have lingering sweet finish but nice complexity from the wine casks. Very creamy and smooth, well balanced, for $45 this is a great deal maybe tied for the best bottle of Scotch I've had for under $50 (the other one is Douglas Laing's Timorous Beastie Highland blend)

Not great

I'm throwing out there, I'm relatively young in my whisky taste journey. I do know that I like rich sherry or portwood finishes. My top is balvenie 21 port finish and penderyn portwood. I expected this to be the similar. It's not. Its bitter whether straight, bland with water or ice and sickly with ginger ale. A massive waste of time and cash

Very nice whisky... but it could have a longer finish

Realy nice, sweet, with the Bordeaux playing all its chords. It's a nice melody...but the finish is a bit a "quick", there's a lack of complexity, if I may.
Tres agréable.

It's whisky.. And Burgundy... What's not to like ?

First experience with Tullibardine. Not my last. Bought this one 'cause I wanted highland and there were no Glenmo in sight. Burgundy finish sounded appealing. Never tried one. Glad I did.
In the glass: Beuatyful golden to the darker side. Like apple juice. Good trails adheres to the glass.
In the smelling-device: Sweeeeet wine, fruity and nougaty with a faint hint of the alcohol. It's very, very pleasant and changes are, you'll never get to drink it. You'll just sit and smell it. Great nose.
The slurp: Little burn. Just to tease the tongue. Fat and creamy in the mouth. At first, nothing special. Then comes the fruites (my mind says strawberries), vanilla and something nutty. Not overly complex.
The wear-off: Semi-long. the fruits/wine stays in the finis for the duration but nothing new happens.

The verdict: At it's price tag, this is a gem. Though not overly complex, it's a very enjoyable whisky that is easy to drink. If you're into wine finishes (I am), this is worth a try. It will not be my last bottle of 228.

Audrius

It smells like dad: his strong black tea, his cigar that he’s saving, his moustache that he wears not only in November. The taste, on the other hand, is very chocolaty; dried dark fruit and tannins.

Love this

I bought this because I remembered loving Glenmorangie's Burgundy Wood Finish and hoped that this would be similar. I wasn't let down. It's got that same taste rush - an explosion of mint and toffee flavours that's warming and refreshing. A beautiful, complex palate that's smooth and worth savouring.
