To create a whiskey with a distinctive tropical fruit kick, the folks behind Tullamore D.E.W. have finished their whiskey (made with a blend of single pot still, single malt and grain whiskies) in casks that previously held Caribbean rum. They have achieved what they set out to do - this one boasts plenty of fruit, while maintaining the classic Tullamore D.E.W. character.
Cherry pie, lots of tropical mango and banana alongside buttery caramel, with sweet malt and rum spice.
Lemon curd, caramelised pineapple and brown sugar, with oak spice and lots of dried fruit.
Chewy orange sweeties, ripe banana drizzled with runny caramel, with a prickle of aromatic spice appearing on the finish.

Highly appealing and aromatic, exotic nose with some additional hints of ripe banana and vanilla, without being overly sweet. You can instantly tell this is not just some bottom shelf product. Enjoyable flavour with crispy, mature tropical fruitiness, a fair bit of oiliness and somewhat dark woodiness (certainly XO), the distinct aroma from the rum cask is noticeably present at all times. Finish is surprisingly sharp and refreshing, lingers for a good amount and invites for another sip. Decent amount of warmth too. What it lacks in fullness of flavour, it makes up with good amount of kick. Goes down neat easily but is definitely better on the rocks to bring up those tasty flavours. Expected this to be disgustingly sweet compared to the original Tullamore D.E.W., but ended up being pleasantly impressed. Recommended for both whiskey amateurs and enthusiasts. Great job, Tullamore crew.
