Launched in 2016, this is an 18 year old single malt whiskey from the excellent Tullamore D.E.W. range, which was finished for up to six months in bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, Port and Madeira casks.
Spicy malt with developing hints of sherry-soaked raisin and cinnamon.
Soft fruit as it opens, leading into bourbon-cask vanilla and toasted bread.
Caramel and chocolate, with a zesty spark of orange and fruitcake.
Discovered Tullamore DEW some years ago now, when the distillery I used to purchase closed and was no more. I am rather unadventurous and when I find a whiskey (or whisky) that suits my palate - I stick with it. This one I find to be excellent for me.
Now I bought a bottle of this but I was hesitant to open as this i becoming scarce so bought a sample and I can say from the sample anyway this is super smooth and very fruity. For all the cask types I couldn't place anything except variations of apples but its not one dimensional it's so so nice. My wife thought it was apple sours from smell if that gives you an idea. Well worth a try
I love Irish whiskeys and this is without a doubt the best one I've ever tasted.
I’m a Bourbon drinker normally. I do enjoy Irish single malts occasionally. This is a keeper. Starts out spicey but not hot, sweet but not cloying. Kind of coats the tongue without being slick. I got spiced dry fig and as it opens the vanilla, sherry and other barrel flavors give it a satisfying earthiness.
I've tasted many Whiskeys and this is my favorite! Smooth and complex!
