Originally launched for the travel retail market, this 12 year old Irish blend is full of sweetness and sublimely smooth.
Scones with clotted cream and vinous strawberry jam, sultanas, dates and digestive biscuits. Linseed and honey.
Light and soft with hints of gentle spices (nutmeg, allspice), a touch of honey and creamy fruits in yoghurt.
Medium length with a little oaky/nutty bittersweetness.
A blend of malt whiskey, pot still whiskey and grain whiskey matured in bourbon and Sherry casks, all of which is evident here.
Nice complexity, tastes boozy even though it's 80 proof. Quite drinkable
This is quite nice. Very balanced. Delicate flavor, but extremely smooth, almost sweet finish. I recommend this served neat. Not sure how anyone could 'thumbs down' this particular whisky, or give this a half-rating, unless they be some sort of aspiring uncouth savage. To each his own. Myself, being middle aged and with that perspective, I would say this would pair extremely well with an evening dessert such as anything chocolate, or simply, capable to stand alone by itself. Overall, quite nice.
People are clueless. "Bland"? We're you drinking it or rubbing it on your limp wrist? Expensive? Maybe if you paid the $58 listed here but I paid $39 here in PA and I found this to be a very tasty whisky. Couple of wanna be whisky snobs on here. Thus whisky deserves nothing less than 3 stars. Myself, I give it 4.
I had way better whisky's for less. Way to expensive for a blend, also way better than the regular Tullamore Dew.
I'm a fan of smokey peaty Islay whiskies, but enjoy all good whiskies. Plus, I have an Irish lassie who enjoys Tullamore Dew. I got a sample dram of Tullamore Dew 12 Year Old Special Reserve in my Father's Day Drinks by the Dram package, and I have to say that it is so much more than the regular DEW. Is it worth twice as much money? YES!! If you can find it, buy it, spend the extra money. You'll be glad you did.
