    Single Malt

Tormore - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

This is the first batch of Tormore single malt Scotch whisky from Tormore distillery, bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company. It comes with a wonderful graphic-novel-style label with a reference to the fact that Tormore is used in the Long John blend, and of course there is also a rather famous – though fictitious – pirate by the name of Long John! Accordingly, the label sees the distillery converted into a pirate ship, sailing the seven seas!

This is a release of 226 numbered bottles.

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Quite a herbal, rich nose with hints of peppermint and confectioner's sugar. A touch of maple syrup, apple peel and creamy Greek yoghurt.

    Palate

Thick, vanilla-led palate entry with a solid core of woody spices (particularly nutmeg). Develops with dried raspberries and banana milk. A hint of pepper.

    Finish

Peppery, fruity finish with dried cranberries and redcurrant jelly.

    Overall

A lovely development of red berries arrives late palate. Jolly good stuff.

    Banana Smoothie

I am not very experienced when it comes to Tormore, having only tried two so far. An old official 10 Year Old that was disappointing and a wonderful sherry matured 24 Year Old from Malts of Scotland. This release by That Boutique-y Whisky Company has no age statement, the trademark of the bottler. Personally I think Tormore is one of the most beautiful distilleries in Scotland, but that says nothing about the contents of this little bottle that will set you back some 86 EUR. The nose is sweet, but also very herbal. All kinds of grasses and garden herbs. Spearmint and ginger stand out. Hints of vanilla and gooseberries. Apple. Frosties. Ale. Well, let us call is malt. Ginger Ale. Light touches of Syrop de Liège (dark pear syrup). Not bad, but not grand either. Seems pretty young. It is spicy and creamy on the palate. Woodspices, mostly nutmeg and even some salt and pepper. Besides the apple (including the skin this time) I also get some coconut milk and something that reminds me of a banana smoothie. Apricots in syrup. The pepper becomes pretty loud, while the mint keeps it fresh. The finish is medium long and fruity, but stays very spicy. Not bad, but a bit too piquant to my taste.
