It's the second addition to the Legacy Series – and second-ever release of single malt from the exciting Torabhaig distillery on the Isle of Skye, which first fired up its stills in 2017! Combining small batches of whisky distilled in 2017 and 2018, Allt Gleann captures the essence of Skye – brimming with roasty, smoky peat and plenty of maritime character. A very impressive expression indeed!
Wafts of woody tobacco and crumbly vanilla shortbread. Earthy peat smoke and a zing of lemon zest combine with a salty maritime note of smoked shellfish.
Bolder peat here, coastal tar with an oily texture, roasted, salted nuts, and light fruit salad. Floral wafts of heather, fennel, and a touch of metallic, medicinal pepper spice.
Sweeter fruit notes with apples and kiwi, vanilla oak and big hits of peat smoke, with continuing sea breeze and briny harbourside character.
There is very little peat to be found, or flavour on the front end, you get a slight spice and sweetness as you get that warming harsh ending, not great, more like a £20 whisky.
Nose: earthy smoke, charred pineapple, lemon drops, biscuity malted barley and a distinct savoury note. Taste: rugged, vanilla and citrus on arrival then rapidly developing bonfire smoke becoming sweet moving into peppery heat from the youthful spirit. This is a really decent young whisky, very tasty! Finish: Long, smoky and peppery
Impressive balance with a moderate peat influence, offering character without being overpowering. The drinkability is top-notch, leading to a satisfying finish. The whiskey presents a light, creamy texture, featuring notes of black and cayenne pepper, coupled with ashy smoke. A subtle hint of light fruit sweetness adds complexity. Although it's a non-age-statement, it stands strong vs a Talisker 10. Excited for future aged releases.
I am a die hard Islay man...so lets get that out there...but..this has absolutely piled in and jumped alongside the best of Islay!! what a great turnout and what a touch from the team at this new distillery! light, peaty but not smack in face, fresh and just hugs you like a friend...cant wait to try the cask strength next!! i am getting a few of these in first...love it
Nothing surprising really, a rather strong "peatyness", surely enhanced by the young age, with nice salty finish. Great with a drop or two of water to ease the character.
