    Tomintoul Seiridh

Tomintoul Seiridh wears its heart on its sleeve... Or label, really... Anyway, the name 'Seiridh' (pronounced "sheh-ree") comes from the Scottish Gaelic for sherry, and as such, it was finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry butts after initially ageing in American oak Bourbon casks. Master distiller Robert Fleming hand-picked the sherry casks from a family-owned bodega in Andalucia, Spain. He picked very well, it seems.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Nutty barley and soft red berries, with a touch of mocha underneath.

    Palate

Christmas cake richness, supported by toasted pecan, toffee and a just hint of spicy clove.

    Finish

Red liquorice, coffee, butterscotch and flamed orange remain.

    Bland.

Seen this, and thought I just had to try it. Sadly it didn't live up to expectations, the reviews, or any previous Tomintoul I've had. Had a few friends round, and they unfortunately agreed with me. Not an awful whisky, but uninspiring, and bland. Mere hints of the tasting notes, not a patch on any Glen Farclas, and as such, just sat on a shelf, and left.

    Great

Gentle dram with nice sweet taste from the sherry casks. If you are not a peat fan try this one...

    Easy dram

Bought this as a wild card. Given that I seem to prefer this flavour profile, I was on fairly safe ground. The price helps too! Spicy start, fruity finish, with or without a splash of water. Easy on the palate, nice warming afterglow.

    Not much 'Seiridh' influence

Tomintoul Seridh (sherry) - not much sherry influence to the eye, on the nose or to taste but, that said, this is a decent version of Tomintoul at a fair price. A Glendronach it is not but it is a sherry finish for a few months rather than having been matured for the whole time in sherry casks. It is a smooth, fruity whisky with a long sweet finish and I must say that I have enjoyed every dram so far.
