Released in late 2007, a peaty single malt from the Tomintoul distillery.
Full and pungent. There are notes of heather roots and wood smoke. A dark peat with notes of copper and pine oils with a touch of gentle sweetness from the barley malt.
Quite rich and powerful. There are notes of toasted oak with notes of pepper and the smoke thereof. Notes of toasty cereals and supple peat. A wistful ash note builds.
Long and hot with pepper and a leafy green note.
I decided to try something different with some trepidation, due to tails of non-peatophile friends, a different Speyside. I am a great fan of the Speyside whiskies. I will have to say this is one of my new favorites. Great sweetness of the classic Speyside with a nice earthy, smoky flavour. Hint of juniper or pine and pepper. Finish is nice without the lingering heavy smoke friends have spoken of in the Islay whisky.
...I'm pretty sure this very subtle drink will be my "standard" bottle. I can't say much about the aromas (for me it tastes like a good, peaty, well-rounded scotch) but I do know that I like it better than many (loads) more expensive ones I've had and it makes me wonder which other pearls are still left to be discovered. Thumbs up, I guess I'll be making a detour when I finally get to visit Islay!
A very nice peaty malt, not as heavy as my favourite Ardbeg . But I have enjoyed so much that I will get another bottle. I found it slightly sweet and smoother than your usual peat Malts. Very nice and well done Robert Fleming.
This proves the above. Very nice for people who like some smoke but are not up for a hardcore Laphroaig or other peat monster. Here the peat IS quite powerfull, but the rest of the palate is very smooth en the (cereal) sweetness rounds of the smoke in the most pleasant way, making it more approachable. What a steal!
Very soothing the smokey oak resonates upmost.
