Released in mid-2017, this 21 year old single malt from the Tomintoul distillery in Speyside is matured exclusively in bourbon casks, which helps bring out the vanilla-y notes from "the Gentle Dram".
Rich oak and earthy vanilla pod, with a waft of citrus blossom.
Creamy malt, butterscotch and a tiny pinch of white pepper warmth.
Fragrant tobacco, more vanilla and some tropical fruit zestiness.
Excited about this when nosing but ultimately a bit beige. Woody and peppery on the palate. Inoffensive. Like a Saab.
The whiff of this when i opened it was stunning. The tasting notes are pretty much spot on. Its very vanilla with little depth or finish. That said i am a huge fan of sherried whisky so this might tell you something. It wasnt unpleasant by any means but this was too light for my tastes.
