The Tomatin Five Virtues series is a quintet of whiskies built around five elements that contribute to whisky production - Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. This edition is their Water expression, which was drawn from a combination of sherry butts and second-fill ex-bourbon barrels.
Hot chocolate, toffee apples and honey on toast.
Walnut and almond appears first before waves of malt loaf and raisin sweetness develop.
A hint of oily malt and toasted cinnamon.
I definitely got the toffee flavour (it's like slightly burnt toffee) in the first mouthful, then the raisin flavour came through. As the ice melted I started to pick orange and coffee too, which was very pleasant. The finish as long, but not overpowering. This is good, I would definitely consider buying a full bottle.
Fantastic whisky. Well finished and plenty of character.
This is one of my favourite whiskies. Excellent character. A real shame it's a limited edition!
