Tomatin
Scotland
Single Malt
An 18 year old from the Tomatin distillery, finished in Spanish oak Oloroso sherry butts.
The nose is quite punchy and of good body. There are notes of chewy grape and sultana with winter spice; cloves and cinnamon. There are notes of vanilla fudge and a most supple of smokes, weaving gracefully in cut grasses and apple peels. The palate is quite sweet and full. There are notes of barley sugar and honeycomb. Hints of chocolate orange and cocoa dusted liberally on toasty oak. The finish is long and powerful with a dry, chewy oak and a touch of pepper.
Rich and sherried, with orchard, citrus and dried fruit – apples, oranges and sultanas.
Sweet and honeyed, with a backbone of citrus, fruit cake, chocolate and spice.
Long and warming spice fades to leave fruit and chocolate.
Wonderful. Great body and mouthfeel. Nose is warm and inviting. Palate is rich and satisfying. Finish lasts. Excellent sherry depth. Not quite as good as Mac 18 but it’s 1/3 the cost
Loved it first time at friend’s house. Bit expensive at LCBO $147 but you live once. Lovely sherry smell and taste with delightful after taste. Not sure what the people on here normally drink and have this a 1/5 (although all Scotch is to a person’s liking) but it’s a 100% for me
Tried this at a tasting in Inverarey...was the star of the show for me. Well-balanced, no harshness at all, flavours of dried fruit, honey, toffee, vanilla and then a lingering aftertaste that included an absolutely unmistakable hit of Granny Smith apple. A good-value addition to the collection.
Tomatin 18 yo Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish 46% vol. Non-chill filtered, natural colour, final maturation in Oloroso Sherry Butts, fully matured whisky from Tomatin. Pleasant bottle design, a great wooden stopper with carved boar. Everything looks elegant and modern. How does the bottle content turn out? I was surprised. Nose: for a start, sweetness, fruit, very intense aroma, no striking alcohol, mild, Sherry elements appear, we get a lot of dried fruit, nice cherries, raisins, dark chocolate, notes of oak and caramel begin to appear. I gave her time in a glass, let her sit in it, the effects are more and more interesting. Honey appears, it becomes slightly buttery, you can feel pralines, nuts, baked apples, oranges, dark grapes and spices, including cinnamon and ginger. I find a note of lemongrass. Complex and rich aroma changing during the time it stay in a glass. Taste: the first impact is - intense honey and raisins, further fruits, cherries, raspberries, oily and malty whisky, a dried plum appears, followed by a bit of oak, ginger and cloves. Chocolate and walnuts are still present. The initial sweetness becomes slightly dry. Finish: warming, long, chocolate-fruity, slightly dry and spicy A great and complex smell, a taste to which I cannot have any complain, finish is the right length, whisky is very well matured. Personally, I like it very much, perfect for autumn evenings, Christmas family gatherings or sipping for pure relaxation. As you will have the opportunity to try it, maybe you will not share my opinion, but the chance that you like it, in my opinion is quite possible?
