Tomatin
Scotland
Single Malt

This 12 year old was released in late 2003 to replace the 10 year old. A medium-bodied single malt from the Tomatin distillery.
Medium-bodied and well-balanced. There are notes of toasted cereals and barley. Hints of winter spice and buttery pepper emanating from the toasty oak. Hints of dark sugar and cut flowers with a note of malt extract, rum and apple peel.
Good body and quite sweet. There are notes of fudge and dark sugar, winter spice and a touch of vinosity, notes of toffee apple and Bramley peel with notes of dried herbs.
Good length with notes of boiled sweets and fruity sweetness.

I found this bottle at my whisky-store and I bought them because I don't yet know this whisky before and also because I had a 25 %-reduction-coupon. The flavor on palate is a little bit strange and not so my taste, and it seems that this brand will not be become to my favorites. 3 stars are more than enough.
Ive had several different, very different scotch whiskeys. From Laphroaig to Glenmorangie. And for the price, tomatin is very good. So smooth and drinkable. If you don't like a punch, you'll like tomatin 12. Not alot of smoke, rather, soft. You won't regret a bottle of tomatin 12, I guarantee it.
This is a very solid, very drinkable whiskey for me. I would rate it comparable to Glenlivet 12 and like the hint of sherry. It's not Macallan, but it's less than half the price here. Great value.
I'm an amateur but I do agree with others that this is a scotch meant to be enjoyed on the rocks. I really enjoy this as an entry level bottle. Tonight I'm enjoying a bottle of Dalmore 12 and while I do enjoy it, I find that I would continue to buy Tomatin as a regular (though lesser in quality) bottle while this Dalmore 12 seems to be just a passing by. Next time I choose to spend 50$ on a bottle of scotch I probably won't revisit the Dalmore 12 but on the contrary I see myself becoming close friends with Tomatin.
Needs to be enjoyed on the rocks or the finish is that of gasoline. If on the rocks it is one the better under 40$ scotchs I've had. Has a great aroma of Apple's and flora.
