Tobermory - Batch 1 (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)

This is the very first batch of Tobermory single malt whisky from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. It's a stunning cask-strength dram with a wonderful cult graphic-novel-style label inspired by the children's BBC television show Balamory - famously filmed in the town of Tobermory!

‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, bourbons, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish graphic-novel-style labels.

This is a release of 200 numbered bottles.

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

Peppery, fruity aromas. Hints of cocoa butter, pine needle and allspice. A touch of chocolate-coated cranberry.

    Palate

Rich, biscuity palate entry with a very fresh, coastal quality. Slightly oily in delivery with hints of baking spices, berry fruits and malt.

    Finish

Long finish with cracked black peppercorns and exotic spice. Just a hint of candy floss on the tail.

    Overall

A beautiful mix of spice and berry fruit with that classic coastal character...

    Celery Salt

Tobermory produces a non-peaty whisky as well as the peaty Ledaig. This NAS-release from That Boutique-y Whisky Company contains the non-peated version from Tobermory. I have only had one myself so far about six months ago, so this is still terra incognito for me. The nose is special, at least. You can smell fruit in the background, but it is totally covered by touches of pine cones, resin and celery salt. Very peppery too. Smell of yeast. Dough from the bakery. Mildly bitter. Hints of the sea and a bit of rotting fruit. Not unpleasant, but not totally pleasant either, if you know what I mean. It is a bit creamy on the palate, but a lot fresher than on the nose. The salt comes first, followed by malt and sand cookies. Pepper and candied ginger. And then suddenly the vanilla, honey and berries appear. Gooseberries and juniper berries to be exact. Does not need water. The finish is somewhat long and fruity. Celery salt has the final say. The nose left me a bit in doubt, but the palate and finish more than make up for it.
