Tobermory
Scotland
Single Malt
Released in early 2019, this 12 year old single malt from Tobermory was launched in celebration of the distillery returning to life after a two year break! This expression slumbered peacefully in American oak casks for a dozen years before being bottled at 46.3% ABV. What a way to get back in the swing of things!
Pear, peach and apple, with a dusting of brown sugar. Greek yogurt, barley and a hint of cinnamon pastries.
Rounded malt notes once again, now a touch oily. Still packs a hearty helping of stone fruit sweetness.
A flash of orange peel, soft sawdust, toffee and dates.
I bought this as a soft for my husband based on the description, I thought he would enjoy it and I was right. He’s really enjoying it. He doesn’t like anything too Peaty or smoky so this ticks the boxes.
Tobermory/Ledaig duo is what you need to bring someone new into the world of scotch because they best encapsulate the variety of flavours. Toby 12 is very smooth and rounded, sweet, but also dry. I get a bit if sherry influence though it matured only in ex bourbon casks. Very nice, long finish. Excellent quality whisky.
Without the peat of Ledaig, I found this very spirit forward, but not much else going on. I wouldn't quite call it bland, but it was close
For me, it's a toss up between the Arran 10yo and this most evenings. Lovely stuff.
This is my favourite malt whisky and never fails to delight. Delivery was very quick despite being close to Christmas, and even gave a 2 hour delivery window on the day of delivery. One small point was that despite buying three different bottles of whisky andbeing offered a voucher for ordering before Christmas, thie voucher was not received.
