The Tobermory Distillery on the picturesque Isle of Mull isn't home to just unpeated whisky. It also makes superbly smoky single malt under the name of Ledaig (that name isn't simply a coincidence, by the way - Ledaig was one of the distillery's previous names!). Distilled using the same pot stills as the classic unpeated Tobermory expression, just with peated barley instead, the whisky boasts plumes of rich, earthy, almost medicinal smoke, with underlying fresh fruit and crushed spice notes. This particular expression ages for 10 years before bottled at the very specific strength of 46.3% ABV.
Quite light and well-balanced. There is a very soft peat with a gentle smoke. Notes of barley and malt extract, with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine, dried fruit and nuts.
Medium-bodied and quite rich. There are notes of spice and smoke gathering above the charred oak. The peat is quiet and dry with a touch of black pepper and earth.
Medium-length and slightly smoky with spice.

A lighter colour which I always find a little disappointing for a serious spirit, but in no way affected flavour! On the nose; cherry and peat Initial tasting; simple sugary sweetness with no "sweetness of..." nuances, which I found disappointing. Sourness, or sharpness of sherbet; more sharp than lemon, but not overpowering to cause a face spasm. Sea salt came through, followed by smoke and a savoury finish. With water, a floral aroma with a real presence of pear in the tasting, followed by the same smokey savoury finish. 8/10; it is a serious sipper that doesn't bring an ounce of sweetness, meaning it might possibly be good for use as a serious old fashioned cocktail dare I say? My 2nd favourite; Lagavulin 16 brought more nostalgia and sweetness to the table, but less initial crispness.
A superb and well peated Whisky competing with some of the best from Islay, it definately tasted at it’s best when 50% of the bottle was completed.
Firstly I need to say I am not a fan of peated whisky, I was given this as a gift. Total peat on the nose, and therefore (me not a big pest fan) I was worried. A few drops of water and the taste is totally different. Absolutely amazing and I think it has to be in my top 5 whisky’s. Great value for money too. Credit to tobermorey
Beautiful, just beautiful .
A great whiskey from Islay! Who doesn't like peaty whiskeys, shouldn't even comment! It adds nothing of value!
