Tobermory
Scotland
Single Malt
The Tobermory Distillery on the picturesque Isle of Mull isn't home to just unpeated whisky. It also makes superbly smoky single malt under the name of Ledaig (that name isn't simply a coincidence, by the way - Ledaig was one of the distillery's previous names!). Distilled using the same pot stills as the classic unpeated Tobermory expression, just with peated barley instead, the whisky boasts plumes of rich, earthy, almost medicinal smoke, with underlying fresh fruit and crushed spice notes. This particular expression ages for 10 years before bottled at the very specific strength of 46.3% ABV.
Quite light and well-balanced. There is a very soft peat with a gentle smoke. Notes of barley and malt extract, with walnut and pine oil and a hint of iodine, dried fruit and nuts.
Medium-bodied and quite rich. There are notes of spice and smoke gathering above the charred oak. The peat is quiet and dry with a touch of black pepper and earth.
Medium-length and slightly smoky with spice.

A lovely understated peaty whisky.
Campfire. Salt. Potent at first. Thought of smores.. then walnut.. slight salted chocolate and shortbread. Smooth salty finish yet rich. Slight seaweed. Iodine. Interesting layers
I’m an Islay fan and decided to give this a try after watching Ralfy’s review on YouTube. He’s spot on with this one. Beautifully balanced it reminds me of a more intense Highland Park with a good dollop of peat added. Superb for the money and one I will be buying again. If you like Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Ardbeg I’m sure you will enjoy this one.
Im a fan of Islay whiskies, and this is my go-to peated whisky (for the price) its magic and its not from Islay. I wasnt sure when i first popped the cork, it lacked a bit of refinement around the edges. But something has happened in the bottle after a month since ive had a few drams. The maltyness has really developed into something special. On the palate i get gentle rounded salty smoke, then a sweet caramel apple, black pepper, bit of lemon and fish. So nice.. I have tried all of the Islay's and this is a winner for the price
This is a very fine whisky, it's just like a peaty tobermory 12. I'll probably stick with the tobermory next time but glad to have tried this.
