Tobermory
Scotland
Single Malt
A gentle, affable 10 year old single malt from the Tobermory distillery on the Isle of Mull. Now at the higher strength of 46.3%...
Barley sugars and toasted cereal, supported by hints of winter spice and soft oak. Salty melted butter and ground ginger develop.
Quite sweet and light. There are elements of acacia honey and continuing oak from the nose. Smoke and black pepper notes rise gently with a touch of dried fruit and peels. A flash of cinnamon later on.
Long and herbal with a touch of pepper.
Apologies, my review above was of the old 40% 10yo bottling!
This whisky gets a bit of a bad press in the whisky community, but it drinks well, albeit with a weak finish. But, it's not overly sweet and has a light smoky and saline quality I like. More interesting that Speysides at the same pricepoint, for sure.
A hugely drinkable dram. Delicious flavour, a slight touch of smoke, with a marvellous, well balanced taste. A wonderful, easy drink. Perfect for sipping in the evening or charging the hip-flask.
The 10year old 40% is much smoother.
To whisky, what a Burgundy is to a Bordeaux, or any Romantic to Beethoven. Charming, rather than grandiose. I'd give it to my mother in hopes she'd serve it back to me.
