A lovingly made and highly affordable blended malt from the Thompson brothers in Dornoch, created with the whisky enthusiast in mind. SRV5 aka 'Station Road Vat 5' is married in the European oak vat illustrated (by Yu Kurahashi of Bar Tre, Hiroshima) on the label. This acts as a solera as it's never emptied to less than a third full when whisky is drawn off for bottling. Expect good body, fruitiness, waxiness, and a backbone of balanced peat in this 8 year old whisky bottled at a healthy 48.5%. As you'd expect, it's non-chill filtered and natural colour.
Green apple, lemon curd, cucamelon, green olive, beeswax and a touch of burnt toast.
Mouth-coating and creamy, tomato stem and makrut lime leaves, marzipan and coal tar soap.
Rounded, gentle smoke and more fresh citrus, including orange.
This bottle is outstanding. They are making some great whisky. Ordered their Blended Whisky as its getting some great reviews too. Hurry up Postie !
This is by far the best bang for your buck. I have bought another and will likely always be on the shelf. Outstanding!
They trained at Herriot Watt Uni yet for this dram they used a Spanish solera concept to regularly remove the central third of a huge wooden Vat. You have a mix of new and old however everything is at least 8 years old so the back of your throat will survive even if you don't add a few drops of water. Its 48.5% so I do add 3 drops! The palate is dry, green olives, green apples and green peppers so this is serious whisky and scores in the mid 80's. Some batches have a tad more sherry
Lots of great flavour and texture in this blend. An easy sipper and a bargain.
Great whisky for the price
