The Woodsman is a blended Scotch whisky from Whyte & Mackay (owners of Dalmore, Fettercairn, Jura and Tamnavulin), designed for use in cocktails and mixed drinks. Particularly oak-y, as you might expect from the name, with plenty of vanilla and nutty malt notes in tow. Nothing to do with Justin Timberlake's album Man of the Woods.
Sandalwood, honey, almond slices and sawdust.
Creamy vanilla, ginger root, slight grain sweetness.
A touch of smoke underneath spearmint and cinnamon.

A nice pleasant whisky with a dash of water, bought for £18 at Asda, at £31 the price quoted would expect a reasonable single malt. Bennyc
Not one to recommend neat but it is, as intended, a great blended mixer with a good body like JW Red (and unlike wishy washy Grouse expressions). Going way beyond highballs it works exceptionally well in a diverse range of Scotch cocktails where rich caramel and nutty notes (totally absent neat) surprisingly appear. It's a whole different spirit mixed with ginger, spices, citrus, syrups, amaros and liqueurs. Even the maple and orange Old Fashioned they themselves suggest is right on it. They knew exactly what they were doing with this one and where to pitch it.
Neither one thing nor the other: not for drinking straight (perhaps with a very little water), and cheaper but good enough brands (especially when discounted like Waitrose's current Grants Triple Wood for £13) are fine for mixing with ginger ale or coke.
Bought today for £ 18 in Waitrose, well worth it, though would be disappointed if I had paid £ 30.
Not a whisky to drink straight, the aftertaste honestly reminds me of the smell of paint thinner. Acceptable in a mixed drink but I'm probably not buying it again unless it's very cheap.
