A delightfully descriptive bottle of Bunnahabhain, released by The Vintage Malt Whisky Co. for The Cooper's Choice series. While Bunna is known for its unpeated Islay whisky, this one is actually a smoky affair – as you could probably tell from the name! The heavily-peated single malt was initially matured in American oak before being treated to a finish in casks which previously held Marsala wine, then bottled at 50.5% ABV in a release of 294 bottles.
Savoury smoke, grape juice, and bundles of dried fruit sweetness alongside a drizzle of golden syrup.
A core of earthy peat smoke is balanced by creamy vanilla, sultana (as promised), and digestive biscuits.
Dried apricot, sweet malt, and peat linger.
