Blended from nine casks of varying char levels, all American oak apart from a single moscatel cask, this seventh batch of rye whisky from The Oxford Artisan Distillery has been named Easy Ryder as it's so easy to drink. The rye used in this batch was a combination of heritage grains planted to aid biodiversity in the Oxford countryside, harvested in 2017, and treated to a long fermentation in Hungarian oak vats. Deliciously creamy notes throughout, with sweet moscatel balancing characteristic rye spice.
Warm apple cider, dried tropical fruits, drizzles of dark caramel, and fresh cut hay.
Creamy custard, with rich pastries, cocoa nibs, and toasted oak.
Peppery spice and meadow herbs, and subtle, smouldering gorse.

A new distillery and dram for me. Light colour and a creamy, comforting nose, the warmth of rice pudding and anticipation. The taste continues with the warm sweetness, custard creams with a little pepper but the palate doesn't linger for me personally not like their notes. Maybe I like my Rye bite harder, there is something in the blend that leaves my palate craving something more. That said, what an amazing distillery, looking forward to more from them.
