The Macallan M is an astonishing expression from the distillery in Speyside, showing off decadent notes of sherry and mature oak throughout. The crustal decanter in which the whisky resides is also rather awe-inspiring, having been hand-crafted by Lalique with six facets, an homage to Macallan's Six Pillars. A treat for the eyes and taste buds.
Dried fruits ripen, then soften. Vanilla accompanies green apple hand in hand. Ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon create an ensemble in the background, with strong notes of polished oak and a depth of resinous, juicy oranges.
The palate opens rich in wood spices, slowly showing all their viscosity. Wood smoke flits in and out.
The heavier raisin and sultana flavours take over, meandering to a long full finish.

A decent enough Malt & comparable to a good Glengrant or Glenrothes but no better.
