The Macallan Gold - 1824 Series

Macallan's 1824 range has done away with age-statements and instead focuses on the colour of the whisky. The concept being that the older the whisky is the darker it will be... Regardless of how true this really is, it's certainly a great whisky packed with assertive vanilla and citrus flavours.

This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

    Nose

This burnished gold spirit presents a lemon citrus nose, the orange peel and an interlacing sweetness that softens but doesn't eliminate the zest. A quiet note of vanilla is followed by dark chocolate - more assertive, yet not overly so - with a lingering floral and light oak notes.

    Palate

Citrus and boiled sweets rule the palate, along with hints of ginger and cinnamon, while soft oak tones reveal toasted apples.

    Finish

The finish is medium sweet, malty and slightly dry.

    Very good entry level whisky

This is a pricey whisky for a NAS but in my opinion it's very good. It's well balanced and very moreish. It won't challenge you but it goes down very well. There is no unpleasant burn or signs of poor distillation. Very worthwhile trying. I don't get the comparisons to bells and taste like petrol. I think some people on here need to remove their heads from their rectum

Poor. Cheap imitation of the whisky my family have enjoyed for generations

    God Awful

Just bought this in the pub thinking it was the the good old fashioned Macallen we all love.... how wrong I was, for the love of god don’t buy this tastes like petrol and famous grouse

Enjoyed it, but not buying NAS anymore.

I bought a bottle when I was getting into malts - back in 2015. It was the only Macallan in my price range at the store and I wanted to try it. I wasn't acutely aware of age statements at the time. I did enjoy the juice quite a bit, it didn't seem young or harsh and had plenty of interest and complexity, I was never into "smooth", but from now on I'd rather buy a 12-year old. Or Aberlour.
