The Macallan
Scotland
Single Malt
This 10-year-old single malt from The Macallan Fine Oak Range was matured in a mix of bourbon and sherry casks.
This bottle was part of a private collection - if you'd like more detailed photos just get in touch!
Been drinking Scotch for 8 years but haven't tried much outside of Speyside honestly. This 10yr fine oak to me brings a lot of spice and heat to the mouth. Not so much the lingering burn down the throat top end scotch brings. For some reason I don't taste/smell much of the vanilla some others do. BUT it has a nice SPICED initial hit with fruity tones and a quick linger.
After 30+ years of drinking bourbon I thought I would foray into Scotch. My first bottle was a Glenfiddich 12 yo which was a bit coarse but more enjoyable than most bourbons. My next was a Macallan 10 FO, and I was amazed by the difference: light, smooth... summery. I’ll definitely try others but this I believe will be my summertime dram... living in N. Florida that means 9 mos. out of the year. Cheers!
First Macallan I tasted and when drunk side by side with the 12 Fine Oak the youth of the 10 shines through. If you like bourbon cask whisky this is not a bad choice. Now a treasured bottle bought at £50 2 yards back, slim chance another would follow. Definitely one to taste if the chance comes up and the taste does grow on you.
Smooth... Fruity for sure... on the nose I get rose. Not seen many whiskey with rose on the nose. Not complex very simple. It is like drinking white wine.
Smooth and interesting.
